PC flame retardants

Glass Fiber Reinforced PC Retardant DR-M7203

Inovia DR-M7203 is a novel halogen-free flame retardant (HF-FR) specifically formulated for glass fiber reinforced polycarbonate (GF-PC). It is suitable for use in 20/30% glass fiber contained formulations. This HF-FR achieves UL94-V0 level at thickness from 0.8 to 1.6 mm, while significantly enhancing the flowability of GF-PC. Additionally, it has limited impact on the thermal and mechanical properties of GF-PC.

1. Materials

PC: Covestro 2805
Glass fiber: Jushi 998A
Flame retardant: Inovia DR-M7203

2. Processing Conditions

Drying: PC Resin is dried at 120°C for 4 hours in a vacuum oven. Inovia DR-M7203 can be used as provided if its package is intact.
Extrusion temperature: 240~270℃
Injection temperature: 250~280℃; molding temperature: 85°C

4. Summary

The addition of halogen-free flame retardant DR-M7203, while achieving UL94-V0 level for 0.8~1.6mm thickness, has limited effects on mechanical properties and thermal performances of 20% and 30% glass fiber reinforced polycarbonate. Additionally, it significantly improves the processability of glass fiber reinforced PC.
